AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY LAUNCHES DIRECT AID PROGRAM FOR 2016-17 IN UKRAINE

The Australian Embassy in Kyiv has launched its Direct Aid Program (DAP) for 2016-17, and is now inviting applications from community groups, NGOs, local government agencies and private sector organisations seeking funding to support community-level development activities in Ukraine.

The Direct Aid Program is a flexible, small grants scheme administered by Australian diplomatic missions around the world. DAP supports projects that are participatory in nature, and have involved beneficiaries in their identification, design and management. DAP projects are normally implemented over a relatively short period of time (not exceeding 18 months), with a budget of less than AUD 60,000 (approx. 45,000 USD / 1.1 million UAH).

In Ukraine, priority will be given to projects aimed at improving the situation of internally-displaced persons, especially women and children. In 2015-16, the Australian Embassy supported four DAP projects in Ukraine, in the regions of Kyiv, Lviv and Zaporizhzhya:

  • funding support to enable the purchase of new radiological technology equipment to better diagnose patients at a national paediatric specialised hospital in Kyiv;
  • providing practical professional skills training courses to improve the well-being and employment prospects of IDP women in Drohobych;
  • providing basic needs assistance to vulnerable IDP single mothers with children in conflict-affected households, through a cash and vouchers project in Berdyansk;
  • improving therapeutic services offered to children with behavioural difficulties at the Dzherelo Children’s Rehabilitation Centre in Lviv.

Applications for funding of DAP projects for 2016-17 close at 5.00 pm on Wednesday 14 September 2016 (Kyiv time). Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
